“Today we remember Aldo Moro and Peppino Impastato, two different figures who have marked the recent history of Italy, united by a tragic fate: on May 9, 1978, they lost their lives at the hands of two of the dark forces – the Red Brigades and Cosa Nostra – that bloodied our nation in the dark years of terrorism and the mafia”. “Aldo Moro, a man of the Institutions, kidnapped and killed by those who wanted to bend the State with violence and ideological intolerance. Peppino Impastato, murdered for having denounced and challenged the Mafia power openly and without fear. Two symbols, fallen in the midst of those “years of lead” that marked Italy with the blood of too many innocents: servants of the State, representatives of the Institutions, citizens, young people of different political ideas – continues the Prime Minister -. On the Day of Remembrance dedicated to the victims of terrorism, we renew our commitment to defend freedom, justice and legality.
